PLEYEL ENSEMBLE HARVEY DAVIES, PIANO SARAH EWINS, VIOLIN HEATHER BILLS, CELLO at The Two Moors Festival
Three fascinating works feature in this carefully planned programme of music composed over a period of eighty years. William Matthias’s Piano Trio was written in 1965 and premiered by the Tunnell Trio at the Cheltenham Festival. A three-movement work ending in a bright finale is followed by James MacMillan’s one movement trio composed in 2013. The lesser known Arnold Cooke’s piece was written during the second world war when the composer was serving in the Royal Navy. While devoted to more contemporary music, this is a programme that promises to be of considerable interest.
